How It Works

Cialis 40 mg works by relaxing the smooth muscles present in the walls of blood vessels. It helps to increase the blood flow throughout the body, including the penis. The production of cGMP is necessary for the dilation and contraction of blood vessels. The enzyme PDE 5 destroys cGMP and does not let the blood flow properly. Tadalafil present in Cialis 40 mg blocks the action of PDE 5 and allows cGMP to be produced properly. This allows the blood to flow to the penis. As a result, a pressure is created in the penis that leads to an erection.

Uses

Cialis 40 mg is prescribed for the treatment of the following problems:

1. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) – also known as impotence, it makes it difficult for a man to achieve or maintain an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse.
2. Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) – high blood pressure of arteries present in the lungs and right side of the heart.
3. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – age-associated prostate gland enlargement that causes painful and frequent urination.

Dosage

A single dose of Cialis 40 mg is recommended to be taken once per day. This medicine can be taken with or without food. It should be taken approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour before any sexual activity, or as directed by the doctor. The effects of this medicine can last for around 36 hours.

Missed Dose: An on-demand dosing schedule is generally followed. This means that this medicine is taken as and when needed. Therefore, the chances of missing a dose are very less. However, if you take Cialis 40 mg for the treatment of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH), you should take the missed dose as soon as possible. If its time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Avoid consuming an overdose of the drug to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose: An overdose of the drug can lead to serious side effects. If you experience any side effects for long, seek medical attention immediately.

Important Advisory

Before you take Cialis 40 mg, tell your doctor:

1. If you take any medicines containing nitrates. Nitrates are commonly used to treat angina.
2. If you take recreational drugs called “poppers” like amyl nitrite and butyl nitrite.
3. If you take any medicines called guanylate cyclase stimulators, such as riociguat.
4. If you are allergic to Cialis.
5. If you suffer from diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, etc.
6. If you suffer from any physical deformity of the penis.
7. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
8. If you suffer from retinitis pigmentosa.
9. If you have blood cell problems such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, etc.
10. If you have kidney problems or require dialysis.

Common side effects of Cialis 40 mg include:

• Vomiting
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Colour blindness
• Palpitations

Some serious side effects may include:

• Sudden vision loss
• Priapism (a painful erection that lasts for more than 4 hours)
• Loss of hearing
