How Does It Work?
Finpecia 1 mg contains Finasteride which is a 5-alpha Reductase inhibitor. It works by blocking the effects of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase that converts the male sex hormone testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT binds with the receptors of hair follicles, disturbing their natural growth cycle and causing them to shrink. This leads to an enlarged prostate or hair loss in men. Finpecia 1 mg blocks the action of 5-alpha-reductase and decreases the amount of DHT in the body. This results in a decreased prostate size and increased hair growth on the scalp. The effects of this medicine last long, only for the time the medication is taken.
Uses
It is prescribed for the treatment of the following conditions:
- Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – is an age-associated condition that leads to an enlarged prostate in men causing urination difficulty.
- Androgenetic Alopecia – a condition that causes permanent hair loss in men, ultimately leading to baldness.
Dosage
It is recommended to be taken once daily. It can be taken with or without food.
- For patients suffering from Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), the effects of this medicine can be experienced in 6 months.
- For patients suffering from hair loss, the effects of this medicine can be experienced in 3-4 months.
It can take around 6-9 months for the person to experience the full effects (of hair regrowth) of this medication, provided a daily dosage of the drug is followed. Follow your doctor’s prescription carefully to achieve the desired results. These may vary depending on factors such as age, metabolism, health conditions, etc.
Missed Dosage: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. Unless it’s time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double dose to make up for the missed dosage. Abrupt termination of the course will lead to hair loss.
Overdose: Overdosing can lead to severe side effects. If you experience any side effects mentioned below, contact your doctor immediately.
